Method Description

The Determination of Total Polyphenol Content in Food and Botanical Products Using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry with gallic acid as a standard involves extracting polyphenols, forming a complex with gallic acid, and measuring the absorbance. After sample extraction, the reaction between polyphenols and Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, followed by the addition of gallic acid, results in a colored complex proportional to the total polyphenol content. UV-Vis spectrophotometry allows precise quantification. This method is widely applied in food and botanical industries for quality control, nutritional profiling, and assessing antioxidant potential. The use of gallic acid as a standard ensures accuracy and consistency in polyphenol measurements, providing valuable information for product development and compliance with regulatory standards.
